As part of the national rebrand that is taking place with Greece’s eastern neighbour, what was in the past known as Turkish Airlines will now be known to the world as Türkiye Hava Yollari with the words “Hava Yollari” being the Turkish words for “airline”.

The Traveller reported that he airline’s name rebrand was announced by Turkish president Reccep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday who earlier this month sent a letter to the United Nations registering the country’s change of name from Turkey to “Türkiye” in line with the Turkish spelling and pronunciation of the country’s name. It was also the name it used for itself in 1923 on its independence.

“‘Turkey’ no longer exists, it is ‘Türkiye’,” Mr Erdogan was reported saying at a recent ceremony before the launch of a communications satellite.

The UN and NATO have formally begun using the name “Türkiye” while foreign dignitaries visiting the Turkish capital Ankara have also used the new name, Traveller reported.
