Thousands of Greek citizens have downloaded and are successfully using the new app launched by the Digital Governance Ministry to put their identification cards and driving licenses on their mobile phones and dispense with having to carry them around everywhere.

Since the app was launched a month ago, 710,041 citizens have downloaded their ID cards onto their phones and 563,072 have installed their digital driving license on their phone, ministry figures show.

The app is available at Gov.gr Wallet and while the two digital documents have official status and can be used everywhere in Greece, they are not yet valid to use within the EU and overseas.

The ministry’s next goal is to add more features to the application, including details of vehicle registration permits, payments of road tax, the result of the Technical Vehicle Inspection (KTEO), the date of the next inspection and insurance details.
