The Greek-Australian Cultural League of Melbourne will launch the 68th issue of its annual, bilingual periodical Antipodes on Sunday, 23 October.
The 2022 theme of the magazine is dedicated to the 100 years since the Asia Minor Catastrophe, and to honouring all those whose lives and livelihoods were affected.
The event will take place in the afternoon 2022, at the Panarcadian Association of Melbourne and Victoria “O Kolokotronis”.
Emmanuel Kakavelakis, the Greek Consul General in Melbourne will attend the event while the periodical will be presented by author, polyglot, and lawyer Dean Kalymniou.
The programme of the launch event includes a band playing songs from Smyrna, audio visual presentations, GACLkids art exhibition, food specialties prepared with Asia Minor recipes, display of artifacts, display of costumes from Asia Minor- all entirely devoted to the memory of the trials and tribulations of the 1922 Catastrophe victims and survivors.
Those planning to attend the function are requested to make an attempt to wear a garment or accessory representative of that era, or if possible, an heirloom from that part of the world that is a family keepsake in honour of their ancestors.
This is a free entry event. Refreshments and food provided will be representatives of Asia Minor Delicacies.
