Each year, the Australian of the Year Awards program asks the public to submit their suggestions on who should be considered for the four Awards: Australian of the Year, Senior Australian of the Year (60 years and over), Young Australian of the Year (16-30 years) and Australia’s Local Hero.

Nominating is easy – it can be an Australian a person knows or someone completely unknown. All that is needed for a nomination is to indicate what makes the nominated persons inspiring and how they contribute to making Australia a better place.

From public nominations, finalists are selected in each award category for all states and territories. The State and Territory Award recipients then go on to the national awards which are announced on 25 January, Australia Day, each year.

Nominations for all award categories can be made online at www.australianoftheyear.org.au or call 1300 655 193 for more information. Nominations close 1 August.
