A re-elected Andrews Labor government has promised to deliver a pedestrian crossing on Centre Road for parishioners of Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church in Bentleigh.
Members of the community have requested this for many years given that the church has been a vital place of worship for Bentleigh’s thriving Greek community.
The added safety of a pedestrian crossing would ensure that local families can enjoy this historic church while crossing the busy junction between Centre and Jasper roads.

“We have listened to the community’s advocacy on this issue – only Labor will deliver this important project. Saints Raphael, Nicholas and Irene Greek Orthodox Church has been the centre of Bentleigh’s Greek community for many years. It’s my local church where I have enjoyed many special occasions with my family,” Labor Member for Bentleigh Nick Staikos said.
“A re-elected Andrews Labor Government will deliver a pedestrian crossing on Centre Road so local families and parishioners can get to church safely.”
The pledge comes as part of Labor’s safety upgrades statewide plan for communities. Labor has invested $35 billion since 2014 to expand the existing road network and deliver important safety improvements.
Update: On Monday, 14 November Mr Staikos announced that a re-elected Labor government will provide $100,000 to Saints Raphael, Nicholas & Irene Church to refurbish the hall, where many community events and gatherings are held, following a meeting he had with Fr Chris and members of the committee.
