Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari, have announced that they will jointly represent Greece at Australia’s inaugural mixed United Cup which kicks off on 29 December.
Each tie comprises two men’s and two women’s singles matches and one mixed doubles match.
Tsitsipas and Sakkari alongside tennis up-and-coming Greek stars Michail Pervolarakis, Stefanos Sakellaridis, Petros Tsitsipas, Despina Papamichail, Valentini Grammatikopoulou and Sapfo Sakellaridi have brought Greece’s team to No.1 seed for the tournament.
Nick Kyrgios, Alex de Minaur and Ajla Tomljanovic will lead the Australian team.
Greece which is regarded as the strongest team will go up against top seeded Australia, Poland, the United States, Spain, Italy and France in a mix of 18 countries that will face off in matches played in Sydney, Brisbane and Perth divided in two groups of three countries per city competing in a round-robin format until 4 January. The winners from each group will then go up against the city winners in the United Cup Final Four in Sydney, played from 6 to 8 January. The next best performing team from the group stages will complete the quartet. The winners will receive USD $15 million in prize money and up to 500 Pepperstone ATP and 500 WTA rankings points by ATP-WTA in partnership with Tennis Australia.
