The Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia (GOCSA) held its elections on Sunday, 11 December, announcing yesterday 12 December the successful candidates elected in the new Executive Council for 2023-24.
The 15 candidates elected, led by former treasurer of the GOCSA Peter Gardiakos, set out to establish a council that “is more relevant to South Australia’s Hellenes, especially women and young people,” Mr Gardiakos told Neos Kosmos.
The team, composed of over 50 per cent woman and led by the former treasurer calling themselves ‘Leading our Community’, received around 70% of the votes from the approximately 550 members who participated in the election
Mr Gardiakos says his team was “happy the community came out with enthusiasm” to support their platform, “we’ve got drive to continue with good work throughout the year after a good turnout and a positive campaign.”
The GOCSA’s Executive and Supervisory Committees will meet today Tuesday 13 December at 7:30pm to form and announce the new Board and Executive Council. Ms Eleni Hanoumis who wrote to Ms Pam Andritsakis and Mr Andrew Stathopoulos of the GOCSA Electoral and Supervisory Committee prior to the election is still challenging the legal validity of the elections continues. Fr Ioannis Konidaris, the parish priest at the Orthodox Cathedral of Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Franklin Street, was a candidate for election but failed to get up.
