Lawyers acting on behalf of funeral director Peter Tziotzis have provided Neos Kosmos with an official statement regarding a recent television segment.
In it Mr. Tziotzis refutes the report by A Current Affair suggesting he had stolen jewellery and clothing given to him to put on the body of Helen Moraitis in his capacity as director of his funeral business, and that he had failed to properly prepare her body for the service and burial.
The statement is published below at the request of Mr. Tziotzis:
“On 28 November 2022, a segment appeared on A Current Affair which reported that I, in my capacity as director of Peter Tziotzis Orthodox Funeral Services, had stolen jewellery and clothing given to me to put on the body of Helen Moraitis’ daughter. It was also reported that I had failed to prepare her daughter’s body for the funeral service and burial and that I had told lies to Ms Moraitis.
I wish to state in the clearest terms that A Current Affair’s version of events is incorrect and without factual basis. I did not steal any jewellery or clothing, I did not fail to prepare Ms Moraitis’ daughter’s body for the funeral and burial and I was not dishonest in anyway in my dealings with Ms Moraitis. I also have not been charged with any criminal offence by Victoria Police.
I was unreasonably cornered by A Current Affair at 7 Eleven and the program did not give me the opportunity to tell my side of the story. For this reason, and because of the severe impact the segment has had on me, my family and my business, I have engaged legal representation and have commenced steps towards issuing legal proceedings against the media organisation and journalists responsible.
I am prevented from commenting any further but look forward to sharing my story in due course. I remain committed to serving the needs of my loyal customers during their times of grief and loss.
Peter Tziotzis“
