Greece’s ministry of tourism demonstrated the year’s success in travel revenue and arrivals for 2022, as well as the extension of the tourist season by sharing a video of the country’s success.
The video, uploaded by Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias and titled The Great Return of Greek Tourism highlights that revenues for 2022 are estimated to reach 18 billion euros, with markets such as the United Kingdom, France and Germany recording increases of +21.3 per cent, +17.6 per cent and +7.2 per cent respectively compared to 2019 when over 31 million tourists flocked to Greece mainly during the summer season.
Greece remains top of the list of preferred holiday destinations for the aforementioned countries, including Poland, and the U.S, AMNA reported.
Greece was also selected as the “Best Tourism Destination” of 2022 in the magazine Global Traveler in December 2022. It was the second consecutive year that Greece won the accolade in the prestigious American publication for business and luxury tourism.
2023 tourism receipts are projected at 95 per cent of 2022’s, which reached similar levels to those of 2019 – i.e. a little over 18 billion euros, based on the state budget forecasts.
The market expects significantly more revenues according to Kathimerini, even though there are concerns about possible unforeseen events or a decline in demand for travel due to the recession of the international economy.
Similar concerns regarding 2022 – especially predicted for the last few months – have proven wrong, with occupancy rates during the holidays in cities and mountain destinations recording all-time highs.
