Well-known actor and director Petros Philippidis was found unanimously innocent on a charge of serial rape of a fellow-actress by an Athens Mixed Jury Court on Wednesday (Greece time) and guilty of attempted ones.

Specifically, he was found unanimously guilty on two charges of attempted rape in the cases of two actresses. The court’s ruling agrees with the prosecutor’s recommendation.

In a later development, the court rejected the defense team’s request for mitigating circumstances.

The prosecutor proposed he be sentenced to six years for each of the attempted rapes, however, Philippidis was sentenced to eight years in jail on remand over two charges of attempted rape.

He was then unanimously acquitted for serial rape of a single person. The court rejected mitigating circumstances, and released him pending an appeal.

The court imposed a ban on his leaving the country and an obligation to appear before police in his neighborhood at regular intervals.

The court found he was not likely to flee or to be a danger to society, the crimes took place in theaters and television studios, which are no longer friendly towards him, and he himself has said that he does not wish to show up in those places again.
