Greek tennis stars Stefanos Tsitsipas and Maria Sakkari both secured wins in their respective matches, advancing to the next round of the Madrid Open.
Maria Sakkari, currently ranked 9th in the world, put on a commanding performance against Paula Badosa, winning 6-4, 6-4, and securing her spot in the quarterfinals. Sakkari will be competing against Irina-Camelia Begu on Tuesday night, marking her first time in the quarterfinals in Madrid.
“I was just trying to keep calm, keep doing what I was doing well the entire match and just play my game,” Sakkari said after the match. “My level is getting better and better.”
Meanwhile, Stefanos Tsitsipas also delivered a strong performance in his match against Sebastian Baez, securing a 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 victory.

Tsitsipas claimed the last four games of the opening set and the final three games of the deciding set, enabling him to progress to the last 16 of the ATP Masters 1000.
“He made it very difficult for me. Honestly, it was demanding in a lot of ways. I had to bring the best out of my game,” Tsitsipas said post-match.
The victories of both Greek players are generating excitement and support from Greek tennis fans, who are eagerly anticipating their upcoming matches in the tournament.
