The Pontian association Akrites tou Pontou and the Federation of Pontian Associations of Australia have organised a series of commemorating events for the victims of genocide in Anatolia.

Through memorial services, discussions, and presentations, these events aim to honor the memory of ancestors and shed light on the tragic history of the Pontian people with the aim to create an inclusive atmosphere where the memory of both Greek and non-Greek victims of genocide is honoured.

By coming together, attendees can pay their respects and stand in solidarity with those who have suffered among diverse communities.

The youth of Akrites have taken the initiative to organise a special event, scheduled for Sunday, 21 May at 9.30am.

The commemoration will commence with a solemn memorial service at the Holy Monastery Axion Esti (7 Hartington St, Northcote) followed by a wreath-laying ceremony and a series of presentations.

To foster meaningful discussions and provide valuable insights, the commemoration events will feature esteemed speakers who are highly respected within their respective communities.

Dr George Papadopoulos, Kinda Haroun, and Stephanie Basdekis, recognised members of the Greek, Pontian, and Assyrian communities, will lead the presentations.

Their expertise and perspectives will contribute to a comprehensive understanding of the historical significance and impact of the Pontian genocide.

Akrites tou Pontou and the Federation of Pontian Associations of Australia warmly welcome everyone, regardless of their cultural background, to join in this collective act of remembrance.
