The Hellenic Genocide Commemoration Committee NSW has made a call out to invite all individuals passionate about human rights and justice to gather at the Hermes Lounge in Kogarah on Friday, 19 May to mark the 2023 Commemoration of the Genocide of the Hellenes.

Dr Themistocles Kritikakos, a scholar at the University of Melbourne with personal connections to Asia Minor, will serve as this year’s keynote speaker.

Dr Kritikakos has devoted his research to trauma and memory stemming from the genocides of the Hellenes, Armenians, and Assyrians.

His address will explore the legacies of trauma and highlight the vital importance of recognising these atrocities.

Accompanied by members from various associations, including Pontoxeniteas, Panayia Soumela, and Diogenes Wollongong Pontian, the program aims to evoke emotions and spark intellectual contemplation.

The event comes days after the Tasmanian parliament became the third Australian state to pass a resolution acknowledging the historical reality of the genocides committed against the Hellenes, Armenians, Assyrians, and the indigenous peoples of present-day Turkey.
