The Obama couple arrived on Paros on Friday by private flight and will be staying at Tom Hanks’, with whom they were traveling, according to reports.
Hanks’ guests will stay on Antiparos, where Hanks and wife Rita Wilson have a house, until Tuesday, June 20. The former American president is scheduled to attend the SNF Nostos Conference 2023 on June 22, where he will discuss ways to strengthen democracy and the importance of supporting the next generation of leaders, along with Stavros Niarchos Foundation President Stavros Niarchos and Andreas Drakopoulos.
This is the second time that Barack Obama has visited the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).
In 2016, during his visit as president, he delivered an emotional speech from the stage of the Stavros Niarchos Hall.
Rumours have surfaced over the weekend suggesting that the former American president and his wife had arrived to attend the wedding of heirs of two tycoons in Kastellorizo that is said to have taken place on Saturday, June 17.
Billionaire Andreas Liveris’ son Antonis is marrying Amelia MacKinnon, with notable names from the business world from the United States, Australia, and Greece, as well as well-known politicians with whom they have friendly ties, in attendance.
It is worth mentioning that Hanks and Obama have vacationed together with their families before as they share a close friendship.
Four years ago, during his last appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, the Oscar-winning actor joked about the vacations he had taken in French Polynesia with Michelle and Barack Obama, Bruce Springsteen, and Oprah.
He said, “Did Oprah and I freak out and say, ‘Is this where the world has come with social media? That we can’t go on vacation with a billionaire’s boat to Tahiti with a former president of the United States without anyone finding out?'”
The famous actor did not hesitate to describe funny incidents that he experienced on the island during the vacation with the equally famous guests.
“We decided to take bicycles and explore the area, but I got the worst one. The Secret Service agents took all the brand-new fancy bikes with leather seats. Everyone left, including the former president and Oprah. And I was left behind with a bike that couldn’t even deliver newspapers.”
