Professor Vasso Apostolopoulos, is presenting a special lecture at the Greek Orthodox Community Whittlesea on Saturday, 8 July dedicated to helping families deal with health related crises.

A world renowned researcher that was the first to develop vaccines for breast, ovarian cancer, Prof. Apostolopoulos, explores interventions to assist patients with cancer, mental health, diabetes, chronic diseases and helping people age well is offering audiences the opportunity to ask questions on how to help their families amidst health relates crisis while raising awareness on prevention.

The Greek Consul General, Emanuel Kakavelakis will be the event’s special guest.

It is worth noting that the Greek community is one of the more established and largest in the City of Whittlesea, established by local residents for the preservation and sustainability of the Hellenic ethos through culture and language. It has a proud and accomplished legacy spanning over 50years. Since it’s inception the GOCW has secured its own premises, offers regular Women’s and Elderly programs and commemorative events and celebrations.

At one point the GOCW successfully lobbied for the inclusion of the Modern Greek language subject into the curriculum of a local Secondary School and also operated its own Greek language school. In acknowledgement of the need for succession planning the Executive Committee proposed the cooption of a new Board Director, Kris Pavlidis.”It is with great pleasure and pride that I can accept the proposition to be coopted as Director of Greek Community Whittlesea, Ms Pavlidis told Neos Kosmos.

“It is a privilege to work alongside stalwarts of the local Hellenic community who have contributed with passion and commitment for several decades, to sustain the Hellenic culture and language for the forthcoming generations. I pay tribute to the current Executive as well as previous Boards, and the former President Yianni Hrisomali and Kitchen Coordinator Effie Hrisomali. It is an honour to serve our community and incumbent upon us to build on their enduring legacy and foundation. I look forward with energy, excitement and conviction to work collaboratively and progressively with other relevant bodies, in this endeavour.”
