One of the most exciting seasons in recent years continues this week with breathtaking matches that give a wild beauty to this year’s NPL “marathon”.
Port Melbourne – South Melbourne
On Saturday afternoon, Port Melbourne will host South Melbourne in a highly anticipated derby.
Both teams are led by two of the best coaches in the division, and the players are expected to demonstrate their commitment to their instructions. The hosts are coming off a win against Oakleigh Cannons and will look to secure the three points to stay within touching distance of the fourth-placed Melbourne Knights.
South Melbourne, meanwhile, are looking to stay on the road to success after their win against Bentleigh.
Don’t miss out on one of the most exciting matches of the year!
Altona Magic – Oakleigh Cannons
This weekend, reigning champions the Cannons will be travelling to face the Altona Magic, determined to get the victory they need to stay in contention for the top spot. Despite suffering a derby loss against the Sharks, the Cannons are still in third place and remain determined and focussed on getting the win that will keep them in the running.
Though it won’t be an easy match, the Cannons have proven time and again that they have what it takes to handle any challenge, and this weekend is no exception.
We’re sure to be in for an exciting match.
North Geelong Warriors – Heidelberg United
This weekend, Heidelberg United are making the journey out west to Geelong to face the Warriors, who are at the bottom of the table with 13 points.
United have been displaying positive form in their last match against Avondale, and are hoping to channel the same energy as they look to take the three points of victory from North Geelong stadium and maintain the great atmosphere that has been stirring within the “yellow and black” organisation in recent weeks.
The team are brimming with confidence and enthusiasm for the game ahead, and are determined to come away with a win. With their sights set on success, Heidelberg United supporters will be cheering every step of the way as their team look to take the three points of victory from the Warriors!
Bentleigh Greens – Hume City
Bentleigh Greens are gearing up for a set of critical finals that could decide their future in the top division of the NPL.
Their first challenge is Hume City, currently in ninth place in the standings following a home defeat against Green Gully.
On the other hand, the Greens were able to put on an impressive display in their last match against South Melbourne, nearly derailing their winning streak. With this in mind, the historical club will be feeling confident and looking to use the momentum from their previous match to overcome Hume’s hurdle and start to look to the future with a renewed sense of optimism.
NPL2
This Friday night (21/07, 20:30), the top two teams in the NPL2 standings will face off in a breathtaking match, as Kingston City, the leaders, host second-placed and highly-charged Dandenong City in an all-out derby.
The “Greek” team will line up with aggressive intentions to show their opponents who is the boss of the match from the first minutes.
At John Kane Memorial Park, Northcote will welcome Preston Lions at 20:30 for a match that will be sure to test strong nerves.
Brunswick City have an extremely difficult task this weekend, as they must face Eastern Lions at home. If they want to stay in the division, they must now treat every match from now on as if it were a final.
NPL3
This Saturday afternoon (22/07, 15:00), Box Hill United travel to Doveton to face the local team in a hugely important clash. The hosts, currently in 7th place in the table, are only five points ahead of the visitors, making this match a derby-like affair.
State Leagues
This week, Yarraville will embark on an exciting journey to Whittlesea to battle United in the Southeast Group Program. The clash promises to be an intriguing one, and fans are sure to be on the edge of their seats! The weekend’s events don’t end there, however – Malvern will play host to Old Scotch, while Aris will take on the Group Leaders, Melbourne SRBIJA, in a derby away. It’s sure to be an exciting weekend and we can’t wait to see who will come out on top.
