The Church of the Dormition of the Theotokos in Jeonju saw a gathering of Greek Iconographers alongside volunteer assistants from Korea and Taiwan last Monday.
United under the guidance of renowned Iconographer Professor Sozos Giannoudis, the group embarked on a mission to organise a workshop and prepare the church “for an awe-inspiring transformation”.
The iconographers began their “sacred” work known as agiographia, at sunrise with a prayer.
The Metropolitan of Korea and the Dean of the parish, Fr Hilarion Jeong, led the congregation in supplication with a service to the Lord and Theotokos, seeking blessings for the painters and their assistants, as well as for those responsible for the wellbeing of the more than forty participants engaged in the project.
The Metropolitan expressed his deep gratitude to all involved, offering well wishes for their “health and strength throughout this significant undertaking, which holds profound importance for the life of the Church in Korea”.
“The first strokes of paint on the holy walls marked the beginning of a remarkable artistic journey that will honor and preserve the timeless beauty of faith in Jeonju’s cherished church,” he said.
