SBS Audio launches “Australia Explained,” a rebranded version of its award-winning Settlement Guide, dedicated to supporting new migrants as net migration reaches a record high.

Available in over 30 languages, the platform offers practical resources on various aspects of life in Australia, such as employment, housing, health, education, and emergency essentials.

The service also provides multilingual explainers on the upcoming Indigenous Voice to Parliament Referendum, aiming to give migrants accurate information and insights into First Nations perspectives. SBS Director of Audio and Language Content, David Hua, stressed the importance of fostering a sense of belonging and social cohesion for all residents.

Recently honoured with an EMPA Award for Excellence in Emergency Communications, Australia Explained’s Special Edition Emergency series increases awareness and community resilience by covering natural hazards, risk prevention, emergency alerts, and local emergency services access.

The service has now expanded to include Bislama (spoken in Vanuatu) and Telugu (spoken in India) to reach more migrants settling in Australia.

Additionally, SBS’s Learn English service provides free online resources to help adults improve their English, with videos, worksheets, and podcasts available in over 18 languages, including Greek.

The platform aims to ease the language barrier for newcomers.
