The George Treloar Memorial Committee, in conjunction with Merimna Pontion Kyrion Oceania and Pontiaki Estia, will hold its annual commemorative service at the Major George Devine Treloar Statue and Memorial in Sturt Street, Ballarat. The service will commence at 11.30am on Sunday, 17 September.

This is the fourth year since the unveiling of the Statue and Memorial. The Statue and Memorial was erected by the Committee with the support of the City of Ballarat and many Greek community organisations and individuals.

The Statue and Memorial was created in recognition of the refugee work of George Treloar, an Australian soldier and son of Ballarat, who assisted over 100,000- Christian refugees in the re settlement in Norther Greece from their homes across Pontus and Asia Minor in the early 1920’s.

The service will include an official wreath laying ceremony, along with speeches and a special dance performance by the Pontiaki Estia Dance Group.

The Chair of the Committee and President of Merimna, Litsa Athanasiadis, said that all are welcome to attend and take part in this important annual service.

All are invited to attend. Those wishing to lay a wreath are also welcome to do so.
