The Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria will host Labor MP Sheena Watt to discuss the significance of The Voice to Parliament on Monday, August 28, at the Greek Centre.

Watt will shed light on what she believes is a vital initiative and how it will operate and underline why voting ‘yes’ is essential for the progress of reconciliation in Australia.

“As an organisation representing migrants and their descendants, we wholeheartedly support the constitutional recognition of Australia’s First Peoples,” the GCM said in a statement.

“We have tirelessly advocated for the right to practice our language and culture as proud citizens of this nation. Similarly, we recognise and respect the Indigenous people’s rights to do the same. We understand that constitutional change is crucial to enshrine their position as the First Peoples of Australia, through the establishment of The Voice. Their ancient culture, deeply woven into this land’s history, deserves this recognition, acknowledging their presence in this country for over 65,000 years—a land that we, alongside our parents and grandparents, adopted as our beloved homeland.”
