The Health Ministry’s general secretary Christina Papanikolaou called on the directors of the country’s state hospitals to brief authorities regarding their level of readiness to deal with a potential Ebola infection.
Hospitals have been asked to inform the ministry by the end of this week whether their staff have been trained to deal with anyone displaying symptoms of Ebola and whether steps have been taken to ensure a rapid response and timely isolation if a suspicious case should arise.
In a letter sent to Health Minister Makis Voridis, the union representing hospital doctors in Athens and Piraeus asked for additional staff and equipment to ensure hospitals are fully prepared.
