Victoria Police are seeking the aid of the public to help unravel the mystery behind the discovery of a deceased woman 57-years-ago in Sorrento.
A fresh appeal for public assistance from the Mornington Crime Investigation Unit details that an unidentified deceased female was found floating in the water of Sorrento Back Beach on the evening of February 25 1966.
It is unknown where she came from or how she came to be at the beach.
Detectives have released a digitally generated image of the woman in hope that someone may be able to provide information about her identity.
She is described as being between 65-70 years old, around 164cm tall and of slight build, has grey hair, no teeth and brown eyes with a blue periphery in her iris.
There was also a pre-existing scar, six inches in size, on her left leg.
When she was found, the woman was wearing a string of pearls, a pink bra and corset, blue boomers and nylon stockings – while no personal belongings were found.
An image of another woman believed to be linked to the deceased has been released by detectives in hopes to solve the near 60-year mystery.
The photo was located with the deceased woman’s police file from 1966, with no explanation on its origin or connection, other than that it was identified as taken in Italy and dated April 10 1961.
