Greek karateka Stefanos Xenos emerged victorious from Saturday’s night World Championships final in Budapest Hungary, beating Kaisar Alpisbai from Kazakhstan, No. 7 in the world ranking.
Hailing from Odysseas Petroupolis, Xenos’ rise to the top was not easy having to defeat an array of internationally acclaimed competitors, including Maximiliano Larosa from Uruguay, Amr Aboukora from Egypt, Alaeddin Salmi from Algeria, Leilei Shi from China, and Erai Samdan from Turkey.
Xenos’ impressive performance in the 60kg Kumite division secured a big win for Greece in the sport, marking the first time the country clinches gold since 2018, with Elena Hatziliadou in Madrid.
