The Herald Sun reported that a former young Liberal turned neo-Nazi has “fronted court” accused of creating and publishing a video that included “threats of violence” against Senator Lidia Thorpe.
Stefan Eracleous, the 30-year-old Greek Australian, faced Heidelberg Magistrates Court on Wednesday after the federal police charged him in August with using a carriage service to menace, harass and cause offence.
The authorities allege he created the video, which “included alleged threats of violence” against the senator, before publishing it online.
Mr Eracleous’ defence lawyer, Ben Watson, sought his client’s matter to be adjourned to March 19.
As reported by the Herald Sun, Magistrate Megan Keogh did not adjourn the case saying that it would be “way too far away.”
She instructed Mr Eracleous to return to court next month. Defence lawyer, Mr Watson, did not indicate how his client, who appeared via video link, would plead.
Mr Eracleous, who was a member of the Liberal Club at the University of Melbourne in 2014, is understood to be a member of the neo-Nazi group the National Socialist Network. He will return to court on December 8.
