The Semaphore Greek Festival is set to return next January as it once again showcases the best of Greek culture to all of South Australia, this time with the positive theme, “Semaphore Smiles: (#sema4smiles).

The weekend-long Festival, organised by the Greek Orthodox Community of the Nativity of Christ, Port Adelaide and Environs, under the auspices of the Government of South Australia and City of Port Adelaide Enfield, comes back for its 43rd year on January 13-14, 2024.

The volunteer-driven event, which is held at the Semaphore Foreshore, will once again be host to a lovely display of Hellenic heritage through traditional cuisine, dances and performances by some of Adelaide’s finest Greek-Australian artists.

Port Adelaide Greek Orthodox Community President John Douvartzidis expressed that this year’s theme for the Festival, ‘Semaphore Smiles’, is another sign of bonding between the Hellenic culture and all of South Australia.

“This theme is a tribute not just to our rich Greek heritage, but it’s also a reflection of the joy and unity that radiate through our diverse South Australian community,” said Mr Douzartzidis.

The President stated that the theme acknowledges the joy everyone has through this event, from all the volunteers that make it a success to all the guests of various backgrounds that attend.

“From the tireless smiles of our dedicated volunteers to the sun-kissed smiles that light up the Semaphore in summer, each smile is a symbol of our deep connection to culture and the joy it brings,” he said.

“We’re inviting everyone to join us in this celebration, where every smile tells a story of community, culture, and shared happiness.”

In addition to its dedicated volunteers, the Festival receives tremendous support from many places, chiefly from the Government of South Australia and the Port Adelaide Enfield Council.

This partnership is considered crucial in highlighting and preserving Greek culture within South Australia’s multicultural tapestry.

The Semaphore Greek Festival is one of the premier Greek cultural festivals in Australia and one of the largest of its kind in Australia, with all the profits go towards the Port Adelaide Greek Orthodox Community.

The event promises a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for families, ensuring a fun-filled experience for everyone.
