As the school year at Sts Anargiri Greek Language Centre, Oakleigh, came to a close, a final students’ celebration was dedicated to the Community, marking its 60 years of existence and contribution to the multicultural life of Australia. The event focused on the history of migration through songs, music, and dance.

Accompanied by the sounds of the Omados orchestra, students impressed the audience with their presentation.

They performed songs related to migration, danced traditional dances, and presented a short sketch guided by their educators.

The final speeches provided a retrospective on the events and key figures that shaped the journey of our Community in the events of the diaspora in Melbourne.

On stage, students addressed the challenges of migration, the hardships faced by first-generation immigrants, and the courage, resilience, and unity that ultimately led them to succeed and earn the respect of all.

They also highlighted the continuation of the Greek spirit in the younger generation as Greek Australian youths still learn Greek at home and in school, participate in events and are proud to dive into the Hellenic history and culture.

“One thing is certain: despite the distance from Greece, the later generations continue to love and refer to it as their motherland. It is one of the main goals of our school—to instil in the hearts of our students a love for their Greek identity. Our Community thrives with life and action.”

“The celebration was a special way to conclude a demanding year. It allowed us to unite as a school community to honour the past because the past, present, and future are interconnected,” said the Kostas Pataridis.

Father Stavros visibly moved, and the school’s director, Kostas Pataridis, congratulated the students and teachers for their zeal and enthusiasm in preparing and presenting such an unforgettable performance.
