Greek sailing champion George Papadakos will be competing at the ILCA 7 Men’s World Championship in Adelaide next year.

The event will take place from January 24 -31 and will also serve as a platform for Papadakos and others to fight for a spot in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Ahead and during the event, Papadakos and his coach Nikolaos Chrysos will be training at the Adelaide Sailing Club in West Beach.

The Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia (GOCSA) have put out a community announcement seeking support for the Greek competitive sailor.

His family approached GOCSA looking for support because the athlete has already incurred high costs to come to Australia.

Some of the support the family are hoping to find is assistance with accommodation (from January 18 to 31) and provision of a 12ft inflatable dinghy for the coach to follow the athlete while he trains, as required by the organising authority.

“The Greek Orthodox Community of South Australia (GOCSA), encourages its members, business owners and the wider community to step up and help the young athlete succeed and raise the Greek flag in Paris,” the announcement read.

Those who would like to help or want more information are encouraged to contact GOCSA’s General Manager of Community and Corporate Services, Con Dalagiorgos on 8231 4307 or Con.Dalagiorgos@gocsa.org.au
