Greek Australian Anastasia Polites has been named as a trustee to the new Chair of Responsible Gambling Fund (RGF) Chris Bertinshaw.
The NSW Government has appointed the new chair and two new trustees, including Polites following a publicly advertised merit-based selection process.
Established in 1995, the RGF Trust plays an important role in advising the NSW Government on allocation for funds for programs and initiatives to minimise gambling related harm.
These programs work toward the Office of Responsible Gambling’s vision of zero gambling harm.
Polites and Steven Gal, the new trustees, have been appointed for a three-year term to make recommendations on the use of the RGF and to provide expert advice to the minister on gambling policy.
The Greek Aussie senior manager, has worked in employment and industrial relations law, with experience in supporting disadvantaged clients affected by gambling harm through previous roles in the community legal services sector.
Her previous work saw her manage the legal and industrial teams at the Fire Brigade Employees’ Union and the Electrical Trades Union in NSW.
“I am passionate about superannuation and in particular about reducing the gender retirement gap so women can retire with dignity,” her LinkedIn profile says.
Polites is the older sister of award-winning author Peter Polites, and was featured in his latest book about their migrant mother.
Minister for Gaming and Racing David Harris said the appointments reflected the government’s commitment to minimising harm from gambling across NSW.
In an official media release, he said the new appointments “reflect an impressive diversity of experience across health, governance, law, public policy, and serving underrepresented communities.”
This comes as the NSW Government has committed an additional $10 million to the RGF in 2023 and 2024.
