The Brisbane-based Greek choir, Ellinikes Fones, has launched a new Christmas production called “NA TA POUME”, an album of traditional Greek Christmas carols they have created along with accompanying videos to be released on their digital platforms.
The production is the result of hard work and dedication from the group of talented musicians with a shared passion for reviving Hellenic customs, celebrating the 12 days of Greek Christmas traditions.
“As we approach the holiday season, we are reminded of the importance of preserving and passing our cultural heritage onto future generations. This production is a testament to our commitment to this goal,” the group’s official statement reads.
The small, non-professional choir is accompanied by musicians in presenting a selection of traditional Greek Christmas carols from various regions of Greece.
The performances are accompanied by cinematic creative videos aimed at capturing the Greek holiday season’s essence and mood and transporting viewers to a world of warmth, joy, and celebration.
Their first release, Kalisperizo Fernontas (Carol of Chios), came out on their digital platforms on December 20th, with the video shot in the heart of their West End community, the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, and including their esteemed Parish Priest, Father Dimitri Tsakas, as the featured artist.
“This production is a celebration of our culture and an opportunity to spread awareness and appreciation for it,” Ellinikes Fones’ statement reads.
“It is a chance to showcase the beauty of Greek traditions to a broader audience and to inspire others to learn more about our heritage and history. We encourage everyone to support this effort and spread the word about our new production.”
The group acknowledged the immense aid they have received from the community in creating this album of Christmas carols, noting the Greek Orthodox Community of St. George, Brisbane, and sponsors such as PM Aged Care, AHEPA QLD, Peter Spathis Foundation, Nostimo, and the Greek Club.
