PAOK made light work of Kifisia with a massive victory, consolidating their rise into top spot as they now go into the Christmas/New Year’s break as the league leaders.
The Thessaloniki giants earned a whopping 0-6 away triumph over Kifisia on Friday morning (AEDT) in the Greek Super League’s 15th round, remaining one point in front of Panathinaikos in the process.
Young playmaker Giannis Konstantelias opened the scoring with a shot that deflected off a defender on its way into the net (13′) before striker Brandon Thomas converted a one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper to double their lead (28′).
Winger Kiril Despodov added in a third in the 34th minute, with midfielder Thomas Murg grabbing their fourth from a swift counter-attack (52′).
Midfielder Magomed Ozdoev struck next for PAOK with a corner header in the 72nd minute and substitute Theocharis Tsingaras wrapped up their demolition of the hosts with one final goal in the 80th minute.
While the result did not allow them to create any distance from Panathinaikos, it did widen the gap against AEK and Olympiacos after they each recorded disappointing draws.
Enosi shockingly conceded late to finish with a 2-2 away stalemate against a ten-men Panserraikos outfit.
The “yellow-blacks” went ahead 16 minutes in via a close-range goal from right back Lazaros Rota before the Serres club managed to equalise through a headed goal from midfielder Konstantinos Thymianis (39′).
AEK striker Levi Garcia restored their advantage right before the break, finishing off a pass from forward Steven Zuber (45+1′), and the current champions would have thought the game was theirs after centre back Emil Bergstrom was sent off for a bad tackle on Garcia (64′).
Panserraikos, however, somehow held on with only ten players and Thymianis would strike again with a tap-in following a failed attempt to catch the ball by goalkeeper Giorgos Athanasiadis, giving the hosts a famous draw (90+4′).
Olympiacos was unable to penetrate Atromitos’ defence in their match at Peristeri, forcing the teams to settle for a 0-0 result.
The Peristeriotes will be especially pleased with the match, having somehow escaped from the matches with Panathinaikos and Olympiacos with four points.
Asteras Tripolis bagged a 0-2 away win against OFI to shore up their position in sixth place.
Striker Juan Bautista Miritello gave the Arcadians the lead in the 37th minute before Spanish winger Crespi converted his penalty (55′) in what proved to be the match’s final decisive moment.
Giannina and Panetolikos played out a goalless draw in what was a better result for the travelling Agrinio side, given they fell late to ten players after Charalampos Mavrias’ send-off for a second yellow (82′).
Panathinaikos managed to put their loss to Atromitos behind them with a 0-3 away success over Volos on Thursday morning, courtesy of an eight-minute blitz instigated by substitute striker Alexander Jeremejeff.
The match was tightly contested up until Jeremejeff’s entry, with the Swede latching onto a great pass by fellow attacker Fotis Ioannidis and finishing the ball into the bottom left inside his first minute on the pitch (64′).
Centre half Willian Arao headed in a free kick two minutes later before Jeremejeff scored a lucky bicycle kick that caught a major deflection off a defender and hit the underside of the crossbar on its way into the net (72′).
Lamia struck late to earn an impressive 2-2 result against Aris at “Kleanthis Vikelidis” Stadium.
Striker Loren Moron put the hosts in front with his penalty into the bottom left (48′), though the Fthiotida club soon equalised via forward Mathias Acuna, who finished the ball from a tight angle following a free kick delivery from deep (57′).
Moron restored his side’s lead with a header from a cross into the bottom right, but Lamia would again draw level through substitute Flosard Malci (90+5′) to escape Thessaloniki with a point.
