An 18-year-old Athens man who has confessed to killing his younger brother with a pair of scissors in their home on Tuesday night, has been charged with manslaughter.

The suspect allegedly stabbed his 16-year-old brother in the chest with scissors following a dispute over the victim borrowing a shirt without asking.

According to Proto Thema, the arrest was made after statements were made to police by the boys’ mother and grandmother.

Reports say it all transpired around 7.30pm at their Nea Smyrni home, with the brothers, their mother, grandmother, and supposed girlfriend of the guilty all present.

The two began to argue about the clothes and both their mother and grandmother tried to separate them but things got out of hand and the two young men found themselves on the floor punching and kicking.

The fight escalated and then the 18-year-old took a pair of scissors from the bedroom and started chasing his younger brother, who, in an attempt to escape, tried to hide in the living room by closing the partition door behind him.

The 18-year-old opened the living room door and attacked his brother, fatally stabbing him.

News broke out at 9pm when the neighbours notified police after hearing the commotion.

When emergency services arrived, they found the boy on the floor and took him to Laiko General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

According to locals this isn’t the first time the brothers got into a violent argument that needed police intervention.

It is said they had another fight last summer over clothing again and the 16-year-old had beaten his older brother with a knuckleduster (brass knuckle or iron fist).
