Thousands are expected to turn out at this year’s Epiphany service for the annual Blessing of the Waters, with Archbishop Makarios officiating the event.

The service will occur this Sunday January 7 2024 at Carss Bush Park, Carwar Avenue, Carss Park in what will consist of an all-day festival running from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.

This is the first time it has happening at this location after decades at Yarra Bay.

The official service will commence at 1 p.m. wherein the Holy Cross will be cast into the water for the many young people to go into the water to retrieve it.

The event is part of the Epiphany celebrations and commemorates the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River.

The event will be emceed by City of Sydney Councillor Angela Vithoulkas and Mr Paul Nicolaou, Executive Director of Business Sydney and former Chair of NSW Ethnic Communities Council.

The day will feature the annual Epiphany Greek Festival with a live performance from Greek singer Stella Konitopoulou and her band direct from Greece.

The entertainment will also include Tommy Tsonis on Bouzouki and Theo Skaltas on Klarino as well as live music from Nikita Ellenis and a number of dance groups performing traditional Greek dances.

The Festival will also have over 60 stalls offering a diverse range of Greek food, products and services and other outdoor games and activities for children.
