Greek president Katerina Sakellaropoulou has stressed the significance of maintaining an inclusive society without exceptions to rights, particularly for children, amid discussions surrounding a proposed same-sex marriage bill.
The president, who has consistently championed the concept of inclusivity since the inception of her term, asserted that as society progresses, it should be all-encompassing, ensuring that no group is excluded from enjoying their rights.
“Society evolves, it moves ahead,” Sakellaropoulou said. “In an inclusive society, there are no exceptions in rights, especially when it relates to children.”
During a press meeting held at the presidential mansion, president Sakellaropoulou underscored her role in unifying society and expressed that the state has a responsibility to heed the changing values of the people.
These comments were prompted by the main opposition’s filing of a same-sex marriage bill in parliament, with expectations that the government would also introduce a similar bill.
The president’s commitment to inclusivity is evident in her statements, emphasising that an inclusive society leaves no room for exceptions, especially concerning the rights of children.
