The introduction of a courtside bar at this year’s Australian Open, as they push to be more fan-friendly, has drawn criticism, while the presence of DJs draws ire from players, with Stefanos Tsitsipas among the critics.

With the 2024 Australian Open well under way, Melbourne Park has become all things tennis, but there has been a push from tournament organisers to improve the spectator experience.

One of the talking points is the presence of DJs on the grounds at Melbourne Park, which has been a mixed bag for players, with some for it and others against the move.

According to the ABC, last year’s finalist Tsitsipas is among the critics, saying he prefers complete silence.

“I’m not a huge fan of it,” the Greek said on Tuesday.

“That’s why Wimbledon is one of my favourite tournaments, because there is silence and you can just concentrate and focus on your game.

“I have had a similar experience at the US Open. So not a fan.”

He said the noise created by the DJs can affect the concentration of players during their matches as the sound carries through the venue.

Another rule that has not been popular among the players is fans being allowed to return to their seats after each service game.

In previous years, fans could only enter a court to watch a match when players were changing ends.
