The Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) Schools are maintaining their push to prepare new and qualified staff through their innovative Training and Mentoring Program for Future Greek Teachers.
The program is entering its third year as it continues its mission to enhance Greek language proficiency, with the goal of training individuals so they can play a crucial role in revitalising teaching methods.
At the same time, the hope is they can also foster a connection between the Greek and Australian education systems.
Initial graduates from the program have already begun to actively teach in GCM schools, am important development which its coordinator, Christos Raspa, is immensely pleased with.

“We initiated the program two years ago in response to a shared recognition of the need to enhance and augment the pool of qualified Greek teachers in our community,” Mr Raspa said.
We are highly pleased, even impressed, by the success of our endeavour, with our initial graduates already staffing our schools as teachers.”
The coordinator added that the new teachers’ “enthusiasm and energy, coupled with the experience and knowledge of veteran teachers, have played a pivotal role in forming an outstanding and dynamic group of educators dedicated to serving the Greek language in the most effective manner”.
The Mentoring Program is conducted annually with participants (graduates and seniors from the GCM Schools) selected based on their proficiency in Greek, diligence, and a genuine interest and passion for the Greek language.
The organisation stressed that, while primarily aimed at individuals associated with the Community schools, it is an inclusive program open to any interested young people meeting the specified criteria that also have prior consultation with the coordinators.
