In another significant international event in early 2024, a handful of Hellenic sailors will be participating in the upcoming ILCA 7 Olympic category World Championship scheduled to take place in Adelaide until January 31.

A total of 153 boats from 51 countries will compete in the event, with the first race set to commence on Friday, January 26.

The Greek athletes who have declared their participation are Dimitris Papadimitriou, Tasos Panagiotidis, and Giorgos Papadakos.

The Greek Community of South Australia (GOCSA) has supported Papadakos, who will be visiting the GOCSA offices on Wednesday 24 January at 1pm, to achieve his goal.

Specifically, GOCSA has assisted Mr Papadakos and Mr Chrysos in attaining accommodation in Adelaide with the sponsorship of Community members Arthur and James Economos via Econ Property Group.

Also competing in the event will be Cyprus’ first ever Olympic medal winning athlete, Pavlos Kontides.

The competition in Adelaide will also serve as preparation for the 2024 Paris Olympics, where these Greek and Greek-Cypriot athletes hope to qualify for.

Kontides previously told Neos Kosmos that he hopes to replicate or better his historic efforts at the 2012 Olympic Games.
