Greece and Turkey are both set to join the European Sky Shield Initiative, after both nations’ defence ministers signed an agreement.
In a Brussels ceremony hosted by German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius, Greek Defence Minister Nikolaos Dendias and his Turkish counterpart Yasar Guler both signed a letter of intent to join the German led initiative.
The European Sky Shield initiative started with Germany and its purpose is to better coordinate and, if necessary, pool ground-based air defence procurement projects.
The ministers are in Germany for a NATO Defence Ministers meeting where they discussed preparation for the ΝΑΤΟ Summit in Washington.
They also discussed matters of assistance provided to Ukraine.
Denidias met with France’s Sébastien Lecornu, saying that Greece’s strategic relations with the French is very important.
Meanwhile in his discussions with Guler, the two talked about any challenges and actions that might undermine the climate.
While France has not joined the initiative, other countries involved are Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia, Romania, Great Britain, Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Switzerland.
