Greek Australian tennis player Andriana Petrakis is now the top ranked woman in the People with an Intellectual Impairment (PWII) Australian Ranking.
The system, ranking tennis athletes with an intellectual disability or Autism, calculates the total points from a player’s best four results in the last 12 months.
Petrakis is ranked No.1 in the II-1 (intellectual disability) women’s singles, with 510 points.
In women’s doubles, the South Australian is ranked No.2 with 131.25 points.
“My dreams came true,” she told Neos Kosmos in a statement.
“I feel happy, humbled and acknowledged by this honourable achievement. My family is very proud of me.”
In January, Petrakis competed in the Australian Open 2024 PWII Championships, an event for the world’s best players with an intellectual impairment.
She came fourth overall in singles and doubles and in 2023, she won her first title at the same event.
Another Greek Australian ranked amongst the best is Christopher Pavlis.
Pavlis is ranked No.3 in both singles and doubles with 315 and 45 points respectively.
Both Petrakis and Pavlis play tennis together in South Australia.
