Renowned Greek singer Dimitris Basis visited the Archdiocese of Australia in Sydney on Friday.

Basis, accompanied by Nia Karteri, president of the Greek Festival of Sydney, met with Archbishop Makarios for a friendly and heartfelt discussion.

The internationally acclaimed muso, who is in Australia for a series of scheduled concerts, sought and received the Archbishop’s blessing.

Makarios congratulated Basis for the strong connections he has established with the Greek community in Australia and praised his devotion and commitment to visiting the local Church and its leaders including his efforts to preserve and promote Byzantine music.

During the meeting, the Archbishop also updated Basis on the upcoming centenary celebrations of the Holy Archdiocese of Australia, which will culminate in October with the Apostolic Visit of the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew.
