Ahead of the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Greek Community of Melbourne (GCM) Schools Bentleigh Campus recently participated in an Olympic educational program titled “4th Olympic Week, on the way to Paris 2024”.
In its fourth consecutive year, the program took place on April 22 to 26 and involved schools from Greece, Cyprus and the diaspora.
This past Tuesday May 21 saw the Bentleigh students awarded participation certificates.\

The program is an initiative of Olympic Education and is implemented by the Hellenic Olympic Committee and the National Olympic Academy in collaboration with the Ministry of Education.
The main goal of the activities carried out during Olympic Week is to promote Olympism and the Olympic ideals.
As part of the program, the students had an online meeting with Greek artistic gymnastics champions, Olympic gold medallist Lefteris Petrounias and Vasiliki Millousi.

The two athletes shared their sports experiences, answered questions, and talked about the Olympic ideals and their future goals.
Syrmo Kapoutsi, a teacher at the GCM schools who participated in the described the meeting as a lifetime experience for the students.
She believes it will inspire many children with their own personal goals and values in life.
Kapoutsi also emphasised the importance of the Games and the values they carry, sharing that the schools plan to educate the students about the history, ideals and values of the Olympic Games.
