The collaboration between the Greek Orthodox Community of St. Albans ‘Agia Paraskevi’ and the ‘Archbishop of Australia and New Zealand’, Nektarios has been terminated.

The announcement was made by the Community President Areti Akamati, to the congregation.

The ‘Archbishop of Australia and New Zealand’ is not affiliated with Australia’s Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia or its archbishop, Makarios.

President Akamati stated that “the collaboration with the Despot has stopped because we couldn’t see eye to eye.”

She added that this decision was made by the Board of Directors, without providing further details.

Akamati made it clear that she does not want to speak ill of the Despot and does not want anyone else to do so either.

“Our collaboration has ended because we couldn’t see eye to eye. It’s as simple as that,” she stated.

Neos Kosmos attempted to speak with Akamati without response.

The General Secretary of the Community, Panagiotis Zafeiris, however, did confirm to Neos Kosmos that “the collaboration has ended.”

He did not wish to elaborate further but mentioned that last Sunday, a Russian cleric officiated at Agia Paraskevi,.

“There will be relevant information later,” he said.

Nektarios, also refused to provide further comments.

Neos Kosmos called his “Archdiocese” to no avail.

Meanwhile, on his Facebook page, “Bishop Nektarios Nikolaos Alexandratos” mentioned:

“Some sick rumours are circulating that His Eminence will not return to Agia Paraskevi. His Eminence will return to Agia Paraskevi on June 8.”
