Two tourists, one from the United States and one from the Netherlands, have disappeared while hiking separately in Greece, according to authorities.

The news of the disappearances comes just days after the body of British TV personality Michael Mosley was discovered following his disappearance while walking in extreme temperatures on the Greek island of Symi.

A 59-year-old American man, identified as Albert Calibet, went missing on the island of Amorgos on Tuesday while hiking toward the village of Katapola, the Amorgos municipality announced on social media.

Popi Despotidi, Amorgos’ deputy mayor of tourism, told CNN that Calibet has been visiting Amorgos almost every year for about a decade.

MEGA Channel secured video footage showing the tourist on Tuesday morning before his disappearance.

The 59-year-old is seen leaving his room to start his hike in the footage, marking the last time he was seen.

“It’s unlikely he got lost as he has been coming here for 10 years and has walked all over Amorgos.

Perhaps he wanted to take a photo and slipped off a rock, or maybe he suffered heatstroke, got disoriented, and started wandering,” his friend explained on Live News.

Meanwhile, on the island of Samos, a 74-year-old Dutch tourist has been missing since Sunday. Authorities said a large search and rescue operation is underway. The man was hiking in the Marathokampou area of the island, the Hellenic Rescue Team of Samos reported on Facebook on Wednesday. Local residents are assisting with the search.

Konstantia Dimoglidou, a spokesperson for the Greek police, told CNN on Thursday that police, the fire brigade, and volunteers, including air support, are involved in the search for both men. “Unfortunately, so far we have no news about either of them,” she added.

Authorities are also actively searching for a 55-year-old American tourist who has been missing for the past two days on the island of Mathraki, located northwest of Corfu.

According to corfutvnews.gr, the tourist’s friend reported his absence after not seeing him for two days, prompting the police and fire brigade to initiate a search operation. Both a team from the Hellenic Police and the Fire Brigade have been dispatched to Mathraki. The missing man was vacationing on the island.

Greece is currently experiencing a severe heatwave, expected to peak on today, according to the Hellenic National Meteorological Service, which has issued an orange warning for heat, the second-most serious alert level.
