Carlton Football Club legends Anthony ‘Kouta’ Koutoufides and Ang Christou are teaming up with Italian food emporium Brunetti Classico to create a special treat for Blues fans this week.
Ahead of the Carlton vs Geelong match at the MCG this Friday night, the Greek Australian AFL greats will be at Brunetti Classico on Lygon St to launch a cake display dedicated to Carlton.
Also included which will be a limited-edition product named in honour of the footy legends, called ‘The Blues Brothers.’
Kouta and Ang, who both played in the Carlton’s last premiership win in 1995, are both equally excited.
“We have been patrons of Brunetti Classico since our playing days in the 90s and early 2000s,” Koutoufides said in a media release.
“Our bodies are a temple, but we love to reward ourselves with a pizza and pasta dish at Brunetti Classico, and now of course a sweet treat named after us, ‘The Blues Brothers’.”
Kouta played 278 games in the navy blue and served as captain toward the end of his career.
In 2004 he and Christou were named in the Greek Team of the Century, and in 2014, Kouta was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
This isn’t the first time they have teamed up in a culinary endeavour. The two were co-owners of the Souvlaki Hut restaurant in Templestowe Lower until its closure in 2011.
“Kouta and I do a lot of different projects together but I never thought we’d be putting on hairnets and aprons and cooking up some Blues Brothers treats for Carlton fans at Brunetti Classico, it’s a definite first,” said Christou.
“I’m proud to have a product named after us,” the 151-gamer added.
Owner of Brunetti Classico, Fabio Angele said it felt fitting to create a product dedicated to the duo and Carlton FC, which represents the suburb they operate in.
“It’s an added bonus that the side is performing so well this season,” he said.
The launch event takes place on Thursday June 20, 10am at Brunetti Classico, 380 Lygon St, Carlton.
