Fifty-eight-year-old grandfather John Iordanis, tragically lost his life in a multi-vehicle collision on the Southern Expressway in Adelaide’s south.
The devastating accident occurred around 4.50pm on Friday, involving Iordanis’s green Ford Falcon, three other cars, and a truck.
Iordanis, a resident of Christies Beach, was pronounced dead at the scene, just 8.5 kilometers from his home. Tributes have been flowing since the announcement of his sudden death which has left his family, friends, and colleagues deeply shaken.
Natalie Chown, Iordanis’s stepdaughter, described him as a loving and caring individual.
“We cannot express how devastated we are,” she told Daily Mail Australia.
In a heartfelt Facebook post, she added, “You have been there through all the ups and downs in life. Our hearts are broken that you were taken so soon.”
Others echoed her sentiments, remembering Iordanis as a kind and lively person.
“Will miss your cheeky smile, our chats, and our banter,” one friend wrote.
Another added, “One of the best humans I’ve ever known, always loved a laugh. Shattered to hear the news.”
Judy Pearson, a colleague who had known Iordanis for 25 years, expressed her shock and sorrow.
“I was so shocked to get the phone call last night,” she wrote.
“I had many laughs with you. You will be missed by so many people at work. Still can’t believe it.”
Police are investigating whether a medical episode may have contributed to the crash, according to 7 News.
The drivers of the three other vehicles and the truck involved in the accident were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A South Australia Police spokesman stated that there were no further updates available as investigations continue.
The Southern Expressway and Main South Road at Huntfield Heights were closed for several hours following the accident but have since reopened.
Iordanis’s death marks the 44th road fatality in South Australia this year. Authorities urge anyone with information about the crash to contact the police.
