The Greek Community of Dandenong, St. Panteleimon, which this year celebrates 65 years since its founding, began events to remember tragic 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of Cyprus.
On Sunday, 14 July, after the Divine Liturgy, where the bishop of Cypriot origin, Mr Kyriakou, presided, a memorial service followed for the 50th anniversary of the Turkish invasion of Cyprus and in memory of the fallen.
Among the dignitaries were the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne, Emmanuel Kakavelakis.

Following the memorial service attendees made their way to the new hall of the Community, next to the church, with an exhibition of Cypriot artefacts.
There were speeches, poems about Cyprus were recited and the dance group “Pegasus” presented Cypriot and other dances.
The local musician Betty Exidari presented songs, suitable for the anniversary.
