After extensive renovations, the Church of St. Nektarios in Dianella, Perth, was reopened on Saturday evening by Archbishop Makarios of Australia accompanied by Bishops Elpidios of Kyanea and Eumenios of Kerasounta, along with clergy from the local parish.
The event, marked by the blessing and Vespers service, coincided with the feast of St. Nicodemus the Hagiorite and honoured the Holy Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Council.

Archbishop Makarios underscored the spiritual significance of the reopening, describing it not only as a physical event but as “a profound invitation to embrace the grace and salvation offered by Christ”. “These doors symbolise more than just entry; they signify a path to spiritual renewal and peace,” he said, encouraging attendees to reflect deeply, he spoke of Christ as the source of spiritual fulfillment, light, and eternal grace.

During his address, Archbishop Makarios drew parallels between the lives of St. Nicodemus the Hagiorite, St. Nektarios, and the Fathers of the Fourth Ecumenical Council, highlighting their steadfast faith and contributions to Christian doctrine.
“Their lives exemplify dedication to the faith and resilience in times of trial,” he remarked, urging the congregation to draw inspiration from their examples.

In closing, Archbishop Makarios called on the faithful to pursue lives of holiness, prayer, and sincere repentance, fostering a deeper connection with God.
“May these doors always remind us of the joy found in our Lord,” he concluded, imparting blessings upon the gathered community.
The evening concluded with Archbishop Makarios ordaining Andreas Miller as a Reader, offering him guidance and support for his new role in the church’s ministry.
