Stefanos Tsitsipas is through to the quarter-final at the Swiss Open after defeating Hamad Medjedovic 7-6(6), 6-3.

The top seed saved four set points in the first set — three from 0/40 at 4-5 and another at 5/6 in the tie-break.

He just managed to snatch the opener before claiming the second set behind the lone break of the match.

“Hamad played great today,” Tsitsipas said after the match.

“From the start of the match it was difficult for me to figure it out. He put out a great effort to put me in trouble.”

The Greek saved all five break points against him and raised his level as the match went on.

On clay is where the 25-year-old shines best, extending his record in opening rounds on the surface to 22-1 since the start of 2021.

Tsitsipas will next meet Italian Fabio Fognini in the quarter-final. He also has a quarter-final doubles match, teaming with his brother Petros to face Victor Vlad Cornea and Andre Begemann.
