The re-launch of the Hellenic Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s South Australia chapter (HACCI SA) in 2023 has brought a renewed energy and vision to the organisation. Led by a newly formed board chaired by Kosta Koutsonas, with members such as KPMG partner Alex Demetriou and University of Adelaide Associate Dean in Law, Dr. Sylvia Villios, HACCI SA is charting a dynamic course for the future.

Facilitating growth and connection

Since its re-launch, HACCI SA has hosted a range of events designed to foster networking, mentoring, and business connections. The organisation’s commitment goes beyond mere networking; it aims to create opportunities for education and professional growth. This is exemplified by initiatives like the Property Development Masterclass.

This event brought together experts—a developer, property lawyer, planner, and banker—to guide members through the process of property selection, feasibility studies, financing, and the nuances of the industry. Participants left with valuable insights and a network of professionals to consult.

Another highlight was the “Pitch like a Pro” session, where young professionals learned to effectively market themselves and their services. This session provided practical skills for presenting ideas in a compelling and straightforward manner.

A vision for the future

Koutsonas envisions “a thriving business and professional community in South Australia, engaged in local and international trade”, with a focus on exporting goods and intellectual property through Greece to Europe.

He acknowledges the significant contributions of Greek migrants to South Australia’s economic development, with early generations establishing successful businesses in trades, farming, and fishing. Today, their descendants continue to contribute to the economy in diverse ways. Koutsonas said it is time for “the community to unite, build on the hard work of previous generations, and use HACCI SA as a platform to pass on their knowledge to the next generation”.

Remarkable progress

Since the re-launch nearly two years ago, HACCI SA’s membership has grown significantly. The organization has been successful in connecting people and facilitating meaningful transactions among members. The HACCI SA community is not just growing in numbers; it is flourishing with increased activity and collaboration. The initial momentum has evolved into a powerful, self-sustaining force, generating innovative ideas and robust support for the community.

In the first half of 2024, HACCI SA has continued its dedication to supporting professional and business connection, education, interaction, and growth. Events like the Global Events and Local Impact evening with Yanis Varoufakis and Tom Koutsantonis, Minister for Mining and Infrastructure in March, a joint Youth Networking Night with the Hellenic Australian Lawyers (SA), and the Annual Members event at Parliament House in April have enjoyed wonderful attendance. The Ellinikon event in May showcased a world-leading urban renewal project on the Athens Riviera, further enhancing member engagement and learning.

Platform for the future

HACCI SA offers a platform for members to connect, interact, and exchange knowledge and ideas. Joining HACCI SA means becoming part of a network of businesses and professionals who share a united vision for the future of the Hellenic business diaspora.
