Former paralegal Athena Razos has been sentenced to five years and three months in prison after pleading guilty to stealing more than $1.5 million from her employer.
Razos was found guilty in November 2022 to 16 charges of obtaining financial advantage and obtaining property by deception.
Between 2013 and 2017 she stole over $1.56m while working for a Melbourne law firm, using her position and knowledge to carry out over 100 transactions for her own benefit.
The 59-year-old funded the construction of a new house in Box Hill South on land she had previously purchased for $1m.
While carrying out these offenses, Razos had prior convictions for theft and fraud, including theft from a law practice where she used to work.
Her former employer discovered the embezzlement in August 2017, sacking her in October that year.
In 2020 she was permanently disqualified from being a paralegal at a VCAT hearing.
