Year 9 and 10 students and the VCE class from Saint Anargyroi School participated in a virtual tour of the Tsitsanis Research Center-Museum in Trikala last Friday.
The online tour of the museum, dedicated to the life and career of the renowned Greek rebetiko composer Vassilis Tsitsanis was conducted by artistic director Stelios Karageorgos.
During the video call, students learned about Tsitsanis’s life, including his birthplace, family, education, and musical beginnings.
They also heard about his experiences during World War II, his first song, and his influential career in rebetiko music.
Karageorgos showcased Tsitsanis’s personal items, such as vinyl records, handwritten notes, sheet music, gramophones, musical instruments, and photographs depicting Tsitsanis with other prominent Greek composers, famous stars, and significant political figures of that era.
The students also got a virtual glimpse of a mini stage setup, illustrating how musicians and singers performed in venues of that time.
They watched clips from Tsitsanis’s last concert with Mikis Theodorakis in August 1983, just months before Tsitsanis passed away.
The experience , according to the students who had the opportunity to ask several questions, was highly engaging.
Chrysa Mangou, the teacher who organised the digital tour, expressed gratitude on behalf of Saint Anargyroi School.
“We extend our warm thanks to Mr Stelios Karageorgos for the exceptional tour of the Tsitsanis Museum, which left our students with indelible memories and knowledge,” she said.
